TRICITY

Tricity is a word using to describe the municipal agglomeration formed by the three cities of Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia. Our tour includes a visit to the Old Town in Gdansk (see description tour No 1), and a drive to Oliwa, a district of Gdansk, with a famous Cistercian Cathedral from the 13th century and a splendid pipe organ (almost 8000 elements). The 20 minute organ music concerts take place here every day. It is also possible to rest in the beautifull park surrounding the cathedral. Next to Oliwa stretches Sopot - a spa resort, famous since the 19th century. In 1823 Napoleon's former doctor, Jean Haffner found that this place was perfect for building baths. Soon, Sopot became a popular venue for leisure. The Monte Cassino promenade is full of tourists, nice cafes, bars and restaurants. An attraction which should not be missed is Sopot Pier, the longest wooden pier in Europe (over 0,5 km) along with a recreation center on the square at the entrance. When tired of tourists, sea and sandy beaches we recommend visiting the Forest Opera, picturesquely located among the wooded hills. Next to Sopot is Gdynia - born from the sea and the dream of Polish people wanting to have their own sea port, just after regaining independence in 1918. A small village soon became a modern city, base for the merchant and fishing fleet and seat of the Maritime Academy. Each year its port is visited by many cruise ships. Take a walk on the main boulevard and feel that this city really is born from the sea. For those who have some more time we offer a short stop in Orlowo (a district of Gdynia bordering Sopot) with an impressive cliff and small, charming pier.
